Emergency First Aid At Work Training Course

The WorkSafe Emergency First Aid at Work programme meets the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive for first aiders working in low-risk environments (eg offices, shops, residential care settings etc). The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and consists of 6 hours of instructor led tuition with the emphasis on practical application of first aid skills. This course is also suitable for anyone who needs to renew their emergency at work first aid certificate.

Date: 3rd December
Time: 9am to 4pm
Venue: Duffus Village Hall (Google Maps link)

Time Frame: 1 day (6 hours)
Cost: £68 per person
Equipment provided by participant: Appropriate clothing for any outdoor work (hat, gloves, coat, waterproofs, sturdy shoes), drinks, snacks and lunch

Spaces are limited to TWELVE per course and available young people aged 16+

The content covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient. Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition and treatment of a person in seizure.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking.
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

Successful candidates will be awarded a qualification in Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, valid for 3 years and certificated by WorkSafe Training Systems.

The WorkSafe App also enables students to view their certificate on their electronic device and provides access to first aid knowledge, videos and emergency procedures. The app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play and full information on how to use it can be found here.

NB: The HSE recommend that all workplace first aiders receive annual refresher training in first aid techniques whilst holding this qualification.

Attendance will be consistent with the advice from the Scottish Government regarding COVID-19.  Any participants or household members MUST NOT be displaying any known COVID-19 symptoms. Outfit Moray will follow Scottish Government guidelines to ensure the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 is as low as reasonably practical. Please be aware that we will be delivering the course under the Worksafe Training Systems guidelines for social distancing during first aid courses, details of which you can find here. Due to the nature of these guidelines, this course will be more theory and classroom based, with ‘hands on’ practical elements being greatly reduced whilst any COVID-19 guidelines are in place.

To ensure adequate ventilation, windows and doors will be kept open, plus there will be a large element of outdoor work during this course. Please make sure you are dressed warmly and have the appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear for the weather conditions.

You will be paired up for the practice scenarios, so if you know someone else who may benefit from this course, why not let them know so you can buddy up!

Bikeability Scotland Instructor Course

Bikeability is designed to give children the skills and confidence to cycle safely on the roads and encourage them to keep cycling and this Bikeability Instructor Course (BSI) is a free, one day course delivered by Outfit Moray which will enable you to plan and deliver Levels 1 and 2 Bikeability Scotland training to children in school setting. To become a BSI you should be a competent rider and must be a minimum of 16 years old, or18 where working independently.

Date: 14th & 15th November
Time: 9am to 1pm (both dates)

Pre-requisites:

  • be a competent cyclist
  • be enthusiastic about working with school children
  • minimum of 16 years old or 18 where working independently
  • have time to complete approximately 3 hours of pre-course work
  • have a suitable bike in working order

What post-course support is there? Outfit Moray can provide mentoring and support while you gain experience delivering Bikeability 1 & 2.

Outdoor First Aid Training Course

Would you know what to do if you came across an emergency whilst out cycling or walking? Could you give medical support to a friend or family member while you waited for the emergency services to reach your remote location?

If you spend time in the outdoors, whether for work or pleasure, you should always be prepared to deal effectively with any first aid related incidents. This outdoor first aid course will give you the skills and confidence required to deal with common injuries sustained in the outdoors ranging from simple cuts and grazes to broken limbs, head and back injuries and hypothermia.

This course is also suitable for anyone who needs to renew their outdoor first aid certificate.

Time Frame: 2 days (16 hours)
Cost: £133 per person
Equipment provided by participant: Appropriate clothing for outdoor work (hat, gloves, coat, waterproofs, sturdy shoes), drinks, snacks and lunch

Spaces are limited to TWELVE per course and available young people aged 16+

Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • Assess and prioritise a first aid incident in remote areas, including multiple casualties scenarios
  • Deal with an unconscious casualty
  • Perform basic life support
  • Control bleeding and manage shock
  • Monitor and record casualties condition
  • Recognise and manage hypothermia and other cold related injuries
  • Casualty handover to professional persons/services
  • Maintain first aid kits both for base & off site use

Candidates who successfully complete the course will be awarded an A4 certificate.  The qualification is valid for 3 years and additionally meets with the requirements of the HSE for ‘Appointed Persons in the Workplace’.

Learn to Climb

Climbing is a great form of exercise, strengthening joints and building muscle, whilst having fun and can improve concentration and focus. On the rock, our qualified instructors will make the experience fun, safe and enjoyable and the participant will soon find themselves abseiling like a boss!

Our introduction to climbing course is the perfect introduction to the sport, providing young people with the confidence and skills to join the local climbing group, Moray Coast Youth Climbing.

Date: 15th & 16th October (need to attend both days)
Time Group 1: 9.30am to 12.30pm
Time Group 2: 1pm to 4pm

Kayaks are more manoeuvrable than canoes and are a great way to enjoy an afternoon of paddlesports whether negotiating a rapid or for learning skills and playing games on lochs. We will teach beginners the basics or improve the skills of more advanced paddlers and have all the kit needed for a great day of adventure; all they need to bring is enthusiasm and a towel; just in case!
