Ben Nevis by the Carn Mor Dearg Arete
For experienced, fit mountain walkers who do not mind easy scrambling but are not climbers, this is the finest way to climb Ben Nevis. This is a truly spectacular route incorporating two Munros. It will live long in the memory and does true justice to the mountain. Have a look at this video for a better idea of what to expect.

Training Required: You will need a good level of fitness and some previous experience in hillwalking/hiking plus a head for heights as some spots are exposed.
Kit List: Mountaineering Scotland recommend the following kit list for summer hill-walking. Whilst you will be with your guide at all times, this is Ben Nevis and it should never be underestimated, so please make sure you are fully prepared for a day on the Ben!
Kit List:
- Rucksack – about 35 litres
- Compass
- Watch
- Torch (preferably a head torch)
- Food & Drink
- Persona First Aid Kit (small)
- Mobile phone (keep your phone on airplane mode to extend battery life)
Clothing:
- Boots (with ankle support and soles which will grip on rock, grass and mud)
- Wind and waterproof jacket (with hood)
- Wind and waterproof over trousers
- General trekking trousers (not jeans or cotton material)
- Thermal top
- Fleece top
- Gaiters (not always essential)
- Warm hat
- Gloves or mitts
In sunny weather
- Sunhat
- Sun cream
- Sunglasses
In midge season (June – Aug)
- Midge repellent
We have asked for a minimum of £150 sponsorship for this challenge and we do ask that participants make every effort to raise that amount. To make sure the event is financially successful, if you aren’t successful within 3 months of the event, we will ask you to consider donating the funds yourself. By signing up to take part in this challenge, you are automatically agreeing to the minimum fundraising target.
We will provide you with a Virgin Money Giving link for your online fundraising and a sponsorship form. We also have a toolkit full of ideas to help you with your fundraising.
Participants will also receive a goody bag with a bottle of Windswept Lighthouse as a thank you for their fundraising efforts.
